CLEDEO PART TWO

Share:

It was not a final farewell, but the beginning of a unique friendship. A few days after his meeting with Thomas, a massive white shape appeared at the edge of the farm. It was Clédeo. He hadn't come to be locked up, but to visit the one who had taken care of him for so many years.

The ritual of friendship

Their relationship changed radically. Thomas no longer tried to hold Clédeo back with barriers, and Clédeo, in return, no longer tried to escape out of distress. A silent ritual settled between the two:

Shared time: Every week, Clédeo would come down from the valley. He would stay for a few hours near Thomas's house, peacefully grazing on the tall grasses, as if he were inspecting his former master's lands to ensure everything was well. Recognition: He no longer sought the submissive caresses of the past. He approached Thomas with the confident gait of a companion. He rested his large muzzle on the man's shoulder, a gesture that meant as much "I'm fine" as "I haven't forgotten." The protection: Thomas noticed something strange. On the days when Clédeo was there, the predators seemed to avoid the outskirts of the farm. The mere presence of this colossus, who had become the natural leader of the mountain, seemed to protect the place.

A shared freedom

For Thomas, these visits had become an invaluable gift. He had learned to no longer see Clédeo as an "object" of his possession, but as a free being who chose to return to him. This mutual recognition eased Thomas's loneliness.

Sometimes, they walked together along the edge of the forest. Thomas spoke, and Clédeo listened, his mobile ears catching every intonation of the voice he had known forever.

Clédeo, the "king" of Elias's herd, had found the perfect balance: he had the power and freedom of the peaks, but he had kept his heart anchored in the valley, beside his human friend. He had become a local legend, the symbol of a life where belonging is no longer measured by fences, but by the unwavering strength of a chosen bond.

Every time Clédeo set off toward the peaks again, Thomas watched him go with a serene smile. He had not lost him; he had transformed him into a free companion, and it was, ultimately, the most beautiful form of attachment he had ever known.
